October 2017 – Online Organizing Tools for Political Organizations

There was no Council of Clubs meeting in October 2017, as this was the same date as the County Convention.

At the convention John Loughlin gave a presentation – Online Organizing Tools for Political Organizations.

The audience participation was great and everyone left having learnt something new about organizing tools, including John.

Slides from the presentation – open as PDF, Powerpoint or Google Slides

A member of the audience, Dana Larabee, recorded the presentation on video, and very kindly shared it with us.

Thanks to Kathy Stadler, Oren Robinson and many Democratic Club members for recommending the tools discussed.

Not as controversial as Online Voting – Online Payments is the main topic at this month’s meeting. John Loughlin will take us through some of the options to easily, and inexpensively, process debit and credit card payments at club meetings and online.

Take our survey on Online Payments – let us know what you use or want to.

All club Presidents are encouraged to invite their other E-board members, as well as new clubmembers who want to share and learn about building Democratic clubs to change our county.

August 2017 – Filing and Reporting

the August Council of Clubs meeting
Saturday, August 19th at 10AM
IBEW Local 465, 7444 Trade St, CA 92121 (map)

We hope everyone enjoyed Pride weekend, the parade and the festival!

This month’s meeting will focus on Filing and Reporting for Clubs. Xavier Martinez will explain what’s required for different types of organizations, but we won’t get into the actual weeds of filing.

This explanatory overview should be particularly useful to new clubs and officers not aware of State and Federal filing requirements.

Xavier Martinez has been active with the San Diego County Democratic Party for 15 years and is the Controller. He has also served with the California Democratic Party as a Regional Director and Co-Chair of the Organization and Development Committee, and he currently serves on the CDP Finance Committee. Xavier is a member of the CSUSM University Council, a member of the California Physician Assistant Board (appointed by Gov. Brown), a member of the City of San Marcos Finance Committee and finance director for the NCSD Veterans Stand Down organization.

All club Presidents are encouraged to invite their treasurers, and other E-board members, as well as new clubmembers who want to share and learn about building Democratic clubs to change our county.

June 2017 – Rosters and Endorsements

the June Council of Clubs meeting
Saturday, June 17th at 10AM
IBEW Local 465, 7444 Trade St, CA 92121 (map)

We hope everyone enjoyed the Convention in Sacramento last month and congratulations to Mary Latibashvili @mlatibash and the UCSD College Democrats for their Volunteer of the Year Award!

Now we’re back to work preparing our Rosters for  our CDP Regional Directors, and planning on how to manage Endorsements.

We’re delighted to welcome Craig Roberts, Region 20 Director, to explain how to complete our membership rosters for the CDP. These are due to Craig (and Deborah Cunningham-Skurnik and Noberto Gonzalez) by July 15th, and list our members as of July 1.

Craig will also share with us best practices for running endorsement processes. As a former President of the San Diego County Democrats for Equality and longtime Democratic Party member Craig has seen it all, and can help new clubs and new officers avoid some of the more common pitfalls.

As July’s Council of Clubs meeting falls on Pride weekend we moved up Craig’s presentation, so we’ll also be celebrating Linda Ronstadt’s birthday a month early.

All club Presidents are encouraged to invite their membership chairs, treasurers, and other E-board members, as well as new clubmembers who want to share and learn about building Democratic clubs to change our county.

We look forward to seeing you all at our June meeting.
